Three years ago, a man came to the office to ask assistance to market his products. He was bringing along samples of bags that he produced such as school bags, hand bags & backpacks. He uses cloth which he bought at the nearby department store as his primary raw materials.

His name is Mr. Lauro Dalit Lopido a bag maker from Eastern Samar who married a Boholana from Inabanga and decided to settle down at Sto. Rosario, Inabanga, Bohol. He has been making bags since he was in his teenage years. He was employed locally and abroad as a bag maker for more than a decade. Three(3) years ago he decided to come home and have his very own bag manufacturing business. It has been three(3) years since he had made and put into operation a small shop in his house with only one sewing machine which he brought from Manila, his market are school teachers and students for his school bags and walk in clients which saw his products displayed in his shop along the national highway in Inabanga, Bohol. He also does some bag repairs for few walk in customers. I really saw potential of his skills but I have a difficulty in marketing his products because its product is commonly seen in the area and have many competitors in the province.

Then when the OTOP Next Gen programs was introduced and start its implementation Mr. Lopido was chosen as one of the recipient of the product development program. Our designer visited his small shop at his house in Inabanga and saw a sinapid (twisted raffia). The designer designs a bag using the material (sinapid) and works well. Mr. Lopido was able to execute the design beautifully and he even expands the design in making other bags. After the activity, Mr. Lopido had several business consultancy sessions with our Negosyo Center Counselor to learn about pricing and costing of products, marketing & promotions and was also assisted in his registration of his business. In fact, He also registered his trade mark name SINAPIDO to the Intellectual Property Office.

As of now his Sinapido lines are selling like hotcakes, he is now distributing his products in selected souvenir shops in Bohol. He had also online customers buying his products as well as increasing number of walk in clients. Recently, we were able to link him to an exporter from Laguna which is now he is currently supplying Sinapido Lines of bags.

Now he is targeting to participate in other promotional activities organized by DTI to promote his products. He is very thankful to DTI and the OTOP Next Gen program especially to Maam Emie of Dekostyle Design Services for providing him design directions for his Sinapido bags as well as DTI’s continuous support for his product improvement, marketing and promotions.
